FEDHASA Cape Bursary Requirements and How to Apply

The FEDHASA Cape Bursary is offered by the Cape region of the Federated Hospitality Association of South Africa.

It is aimed at students training or studying in the hospitality industry and supports those entering their final year of study or training within hospitality-related skills.

The bursary was designed to help young people complete their qualifications and prepare for careers in hotels, catering, restaurants and the broader hospitality sector. No call has been published since 2019. FEDHASA’s website no longer carries a bursary section, its FEDHASA Cape Bursary page is dated 4 June 2019, and the page that announced open applications now returns an error. Treat the detail below as a record of how the last round worked, not as a live application.

The bursary focuses on qualifications that directly benefit the hospitality sector. This includes:

FEDHASA Cape Bursary Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet these criteria:

1. Must be a South African citizen.
2. Must have completed Matric (Grade 12).
3. Must have completed a second year of study, or be entering a final year, or be in the final year of a two-year programme.
4. Applications came through a training institution or a hospitality employer. Confirm with FEDHASA Cape whether it must be a member institution before you prepare anything.
5. Must demonstrate academic performance (good results) and financial need.

FEDHASA Cape Bursary Application Process

Here’s how the application process typically works:

1. Download or obtain the bursary application form from FEDHASA Cape (or from the training institution).
2. Complete it and include required supporting documents such as a certified ID copy, a full academic record, a letter of motivation, a letter of recommendation, and proof of financial need.
3. The 2019 call took applications by email to fedhasacape@fedhasa.co.za or by fax to 021 552 3466. Check that these still work before using them.
4. Shortlisted applicants may be invited to interview or will be assessed by the bursary committee. Final-year status and continuation of studies are verified.

FEDHASA Cape Bursary Closing Date

There is no 2026 or 2027 closing date, because there is no current call. The last published deadline was noon on Friday 30 August 2019.

In that round, short-listed candidates were interviewed during September and the recipients announced shortly afterwards. If you want to know whether the bursary will run again, contact the FEDHASA Cape team directly rather than waiting for an advert.

What the FEDHASA Cape Bursary Covers

The award went towards tuition fees. The 2019 call put the total value of the bursary at R70 000 for that year, shared among the successful applicants.

The money was paid to the college, training institution or training provider rather than to the student. The institution had to report to FEDHASA on the student’s progress twice a year, and if a recipient did not complete their studies FEDHASA Cape could require the money back or have it redirected to another nominated student.

The fund was small and the number of awards depended on what FEDHASA Cape had raised that year.
