The Globeleq Scholarship Fund (GSF) is a bursary programme run by Globeleq South Africa Management Services (GSAMS), supported by the Globeleq Educational Trust (GET).

Its purpose is to nurture technical talent in the renewable-energy sector and build a pipeline of skilled young professionals.

Launched in 2014, the GSF has awarded millions in bursaries and supports students across engineering and other strategic fields.

Globeleq Scholarship Eligibility Requirements

The GSF has three focus streams, each with its own criteria:

  1. Engineering Sciences Stream
    • Must be a South African citizen.
    • Studying or planning to study mechatronic, electrical, or mechanical engineering (National Diploma, BTech, BSc, or BEng).
    • Must be in second year or higher (for some categories) and have interest in renewable energy.
  2. Scarce Skills Stream
    • Targets students from Northern and Eastern Cape.
    • For those studying Education (Math & Science), Agriculture, or Nursing at degree, certificate, or diploma level.
  3. Communities Stream
    • For students residing within 50 km of a Globeleq operational site (solar or wind farms) such as Jeffreys Bay Wind Farm, De Aar Solar Power, and others.
    • Eligible students may study any full-time tertiary qualification.

Other general eligibility:

  • Demonstrated financial need.
  • Must commit to service or an internship requirement.

What the Globeleq Scholarship Covers

The GSF provides comprehensive support:

  1. Tuition fees (variable, depending on institution and course)
  2. Registration fees
  3. Accommodation and meals 
  4. Books and learning materials
  5. Living expenses (a stipend, depending on financial need)
  6. Internship / work-placement: Selected recipients may do in-service training or an internship in Globeleq’s operations (wind or solar), with technical training included.

Globeleq Scholarship Application Process

  1. Apply Online: Applications are made through Globeleq’s scholarship portal.
  2. Prepare Documents: You’ll need:
    • Certified ID copy
    • Latest academic transcripts or school reports
    • Proof of residence (especially for communities stream)
    • Motivation letter / personal statement
  3. Selection: Applications are assessed based on financial need, academic merit, and alignment with Globeleq’s transformation goals.
  4. Service or Internship Commitment: Scholarship recipients commit to a 12-month service obligation or do a structured internship with Globeleq.
