Globeleq Scholarship South Africa 2025

Globeleq is a global power company with a strong presence in emerging markets, including Africa.

Globeleq South Africa is a subsidiary established in 2012 that manages three renewable energy projects in South Africa: Droogfontein Solar Power, De Aar Solar Power, and the Jeffreys Bay Wind Farm.

These projects are partnerships with Eskom, the South African government, private developers, local communities, and other stakeholders.

About the Globeleq Scholarship

The Globeleq Scholarship Fund (GSF) offers four distinct scholarship programs:

  1. Globeleq GSF Engineering Sciences: This scholarship supports students pursuing specific engineering qualifications crucial to the renewable energy sector.
  2. Globeleq GSF Other Sciences: This scholarship is available to students from the Eastern Cape and Northern Cape provinces, focusing on studies in Agriculture, Education (Mathematics & Science), and Nursing.
  3. Globeleq GSF Communities: This scholarship caters to students residing near specific wind and solar farms, offering financial aid for studies in any field.
  4. Globeleq Education Trust: Similar to the GSF Communities program, this scholarship is available to students near wind and solar farms for studies in any field.

All scholarships cover registration fees, tuition fees, books, stationery, accommodation, and meals.

In addition, the GSF Committee may provide other academic support upon approval.

However, recipients of the engineering scholarship must enter a work-back agreement after graduation.

Globeleq Scholarship Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the Globeleq Scholarship, you must meet the following criteria:

  1. Be a South African citizen
  2. Have completed Matric (or be in your final year)
  3. Be unemployed (not working full-time or part-time in 2025) and have no prior full-time employment experience
  4. Be interested in renewable energy
  5. Be studying or intend to study full-time at a recognized and accredited South African higher education institution

Additional requirements for each program are outlined below:

  1. Globeleq GSF Engineering Sciences: Open to students in their 2nd year or higher, pursuing approved engineering qualifications (Electrical, Mechanical, or Mechatronic Engineering).
  2. Globeleq GSF Other Sciences: Open to students in their 2nd year or higher, pursuing qualifications in Agriculture, Education (Mathematics & Science), or Nursing, and residing in the Eastern or Northern Cape.
  3. Globeleq GSF Communities & Globeleq Education Trust: Open to students entering their 1st year or higher, pursuing any Degree or Certificate qualification, and residing within a 50km radius of specific wind or solar farms.

Globeleq Scholarship Application Requirements

Applications for the Globeleq Scholarship are submitted online only. Here’s what you’ll need to have prepared:

  1. Completed online application form specifying the chosen scholarship program.
  2. Proof of how you heard about the scholarship.
  3. Certified copies of supporting documents:
    • ID document
    • Grade 11 final results (and Matric results if applicable)
    • Proof of university acceptance (if applicable)
    • Matric certificate (if completed)
    • Latest academic transcript (if applicable)
    • Proof of university registration (if applicable)
    • Curriculum Vitae
    • One-page statement explaining your chosen field of study and future career plans
    • Recommendation letter from a non-family member/friend attesting to your character or academic performance
    • Proof of household income (parents’/guardians’ payslips, affidavit if unemployed, SASSA grant if applicable)
    • Consent form signed by parents/guardians (if under 18)
    • Certified copies of parents’/guardians’ ID documents (if under 18)

Make sure all documents are certified copies and submitted electronically with your application.

Incomplete submissions may lead to disqualification.
