The 2027 round closed on 7 July 2026 under reference BDHR10/26.
VerifiedBooysendal Platinum, near Mashishing (Lydenburg) and Steelpoort on the Mpumalanga-Limpopo border, is one of Northam Platinum’s three mining complexes. The mine funds a small number of engineering, geology and mining students each year, with preference for young people from its host communities, and takes bursars into Northam’s graduate programme.
About the Northam Booysendal Platinum Bursary
For 2027 the mine offered three bursaries:
- One in electrical or mechanical engineering.
- One in geology.
- One in mining engineering.
The bursary covers full study costs at an accredited South African institution, with vacation work at the mine and consideration for Northam’s graduate development programme. Amounts are set out in the bursary agreement.
Northam Booysendal Bursary eligibility requirements
- South African citizen.
- In Matric, or have completed Matric, or already enrolled at an accredited tertiary institution in one of the fields above.
- Matric applicants: at least 60% in Mathematics and Physical Science and 50% in a language in the Grade 11 final examinations, and a pass in all subjects in the Matric mid-year examinations.
- Current students: an overall average of at least 60% in major subjects.
- Preference for residents of Mashishing, Roossenekal and Steelpoort, though applicants from elsewhere may apply.
How to apply for the Northam Booysendal Bursary
- There is no application form. Gather certified copies of: your ID; your Grade 11 final results and latest Matric results, or your Matric certificate; proof of acceptance or registration at a tertiary institution; academic transcripts if you are already studying; and a CV stamped by your community or ward office.
- Email the documents to HRApplicationsBD@norplats.co.za with the subject line “BURSARIES” and the reference number from the advert (BDHR10/26 for the 2027 round).
- Submit before the closing date. Only shortlisted candidates are contacted, within about three weeks.

The 2027 round closed on 7 July 2026. The 2028 closing date has not been announced.
