VerifiedNSFAS Applications for TVET Trimester Intakes
NSFAS opens separate application windows for students starting in a TVET college trimester, in addition to its main national cycle.
Key Dates
- Trimester 3 of 2026 opened: 14 August 2026
- Trimester 3 of 2026 closed: 23 August 2026. NSFAS withdrew the 3-14 September dates it had communicated earlier, so that Trimester 3 would not overlap with the 2027 national cycle.
This means students only have 17 days to submit their applications for funding.
What NSFAS Covers
NSFAS provides bursaries and student loans to eligible students. Funding includes:
- Tuition fees
- Registration fees
- Allowances for accommodation, transport, food, and learning materials
This financial support is targeted at students from poor and working-class households who cannot afford the costs of tertiary education.
Important Notice
Apply in a trimester window only if you are starting in that trimester. The main 2027 NSFAS cycle opened on 18 September 2026 and closes on 31 October 2026; TVET trimester windows are announced separately.
How To Apply For NSFAS
The process is the same as in other windows: apply online through the myNSFAS portal.
Steps To Apply:
- Visit www.nsfas.org.za and click on the myNSFAS tab.
- Create a myNSFAS account.
- Click on the APPLY tab and fill in all required sections.
- Upload the necessary supporting documents.
- Click Submit to complete your application.
NSFAS Requirements For TVET College Students
To qualify for NSFAS, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be a South African citizen
- Be registered or planning to register for a PLP, NC(V), or Report 191 programme
- Meet the N+Rule requirement
- Not be enrolled in a qualification that duplicates previous state-funded studies
- Have a combined gross family income of:
- Up to R350,000 per year for a bursary
- Up to R600,000 per year for an NSFAS loan
