Mobile technology for the last mile
Mezzanine sees mobile technology as a major enabler of productive societies, pointing to an estimated 800 million mobile subscribers in Africa. Mezzanine delivers last-mile mobile, Internet of Things and digital solutions designed to cut costs, improve efficiency and risk management, and reach citizens directly. Mezzanine co-creates these solutions with customers in agriculture, health, social services, education, utilities and financial management.
Where Mezzanine started
Health is where Mezzanine began. Mezzanine’s health products link people to care at the last mile and manage medical supply chains and pathology services. In agribusiness, Mezzanine helps companies interact and transact with smallholder and commercial farmers, and says its work helped stamp out corruption in the dairy industry.
In education, a Mezzanine mobile application sits in the hands of 10 000 head teachers in South Africa and Nigeria, who use it to submit enrolment and attendance statistics and report incidents. Mezzanine’s Communicator product delivers training content and quizzes to community health workers by SMS, IVR and USSD, so it works on basic feature phones. Newer products track time-of-use energy consumption across multiple sites.
The Mezzanine bursary
Mezzanine positions its bursary as a talent pipeline for its computer science-focused engineering teams, according to a provider record checked in August 2026. The last published round was an academic merit bursary for first-year computer science students who lack the resources to study, and covered tuition and university accommodation, with job shadowing and networking with Mezzanine staff. Applicants had to be South African citizens living in the Western Cape, unemployed, with at least 65% in Matric and no other bursary.
