Netcare Education
Netcare Education is the group’s dedicated training division. Netcare Education runs accredited nursing colleges that supply a significant share of the nurses entering South Africa’s private healthcare sector each year, as well as training for emergency care and other clinical roles. For many young people, Netcare Education offers a route into nursing that combines classroom study with practical work in real hospitals.
Why Netcare funds students
South Africa has a well-documented shortage of registered nurses, pharmacists and allied health professionals, and private hospital groups compete with the public sector and with each other for qualified staff. Netcare’s bursary and student nurse funding, administered largely through its nursing colleges, secures a pipeline of clinicians for its own hospitals. Funding typically covers tuition and prescribed textbooks, sometimes living costs, with practical placements and mentorship in Netcare facilities.
Netcare bursaries are commonly linked to a service commitment after qualifying. As with most employer-linked healthcare bursaries in South Africa, recipients who do not complete the agreed work-back usually have to repay the funding, but exact terms vary by intake, so applicants should confirm them directly with Netcare.
Warnings about fake adverts
Netcare has publicly warned against fraudulent WhatsApp messages advertising “free Netcare nursing training”. Genuine Netcare opportunities are published only through Netcare’s official channels, and Netcare never asks applicants to pay to be considered.
Timing
Netcare had not published a 2027 bursary closing date when BursariesAfrica checked, and Netcare’s website returned only a cookie notice to automated reading on 15 September 2026.
How to research Netcare
Visit the education and training pages on Netcare’s official website and email Netcare Education to ask about 2027 intakes, entry requirements and service obligations. Ask nurses at a Netcare hospital near you about their training and the work culture. Compare the nursing qualifications Netcare offers with those at public nursing colleges, and check that any qualification is accredited by the South African Nursing Council.
