The bursary is aimed at supporting young people from selected communities in KwaZulu-Natal who want to pursue engineering qualifications at recognised South African tertiary institutions.
This bursary is part of Safripol’s commitment to skills development and community upliftment, particularly in areas close to its operations.
About Safripol
Safripol is a major producer and marketer of polymers in South Africa. The company supplies materials used across key industries such as agriculture, infrastructure, manufacturing, medical, packaging, and telecommunications.
Safripol is the sole local producer of PET and HDPE and one of only two producers of polypropylene in the country.
The company also promotes environmentally responsible plastic use through the Three R’s – Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle, with a strong focus on sustainability and responsible manufacturing.
Fields of Study Covered
The Safripol Community Bursary supports engineering studies only. Applicants must be studying or intending to study in one of the following fields:
- Chemical Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Instrumentation Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
Applications for qualifications outside these fields will not be considered.
Who Can Apply?
To qualify for the Safripol Community Bursary, applicants must meet all of the following requirements:
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must reside in Wentworth, Jacobs, or Bluff in KwaZulu-Natal
- Must have completed Matric or be currently in Matric
- Must be studying or planning to study towards one of the engineering fields listed above
- Must be enrolled or provisionally accepted at a recognised and accredited South African tertiary institution
Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee funding, as bursaries are awarded at the discretion of the Safripol Bursary Committee.
Selection Process
All qualifying applications are assessed based on:
- Admission Point Score (APS)
- Current academic results (where applicable)
- Chosen field of study
Final funding is only confirmed once the applicant has been formally accepted by a tertiary institution for the 2026 academic year.
What the Bursary Covers
Safripol does not publish a fixed bursary value. The funding awarded may vary depending on individual circumstances and available funds.
Bursary support may contribute towards:
- Tuition fees
- Study-related expenses
Required Documents
Applicants must submit clear copies of the following documents. Missing documents may result in disqualification.
- Certified copy of South African ID
- Grade 11 report and latest Matric report (if currently in Matric)
- Matric certificate (if Matric has been completed)
- Academic transcript (if currently studying)
- Updated fee statement (if currently studying)
- Proof of enrolment or provisional acceptance at a tertiary institution
- Parent or guardian proof of income
- Payslips (if employed)
- Affidavit (if unemployed)
- Proof of SASSA grant or pension, where applicable
- Testimonial from high school (if currently in Matric)
- Motivation letter (if currently studying)
- Proof of residence
- Affidavit confirming dependency on parent or guardian
All certified documents should be valid and clear.
