The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) relies on phone numbers to communicate with applicants and beneficiaries regarding their Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant.

If you’ve lost your SASSA phone numbers or no longer have access to the one you used with your SASSA application, it’s important to update your information to avoid missing important updates or delays in receiving your grant.

How to Change Lost SASSA Phone Numbers

There are two main ways to update SASSA phone numbers if you’ve lost it:

  1. Visit the official SASSA SRD website at https://srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/contact.
  2. Look for a section titled “Update Contact Details” or similar. This might be readily visible on the homepage or require some scrolling.
  3. You’ll need your 13-digit South African ID number and the 6-digit Application ID (AppID) provided by SASSA during your initial application. If you don’t have your AppID readily available, you can retrieve it on the SASSA website using your ID number.
  4. Once verified, you’ll be able to update your phone number and provide a reason for the change (e.g., lost phone).
  5. SASSA will send a One-Time PIN (OTP) to your new phone number for verification. Enter the OTP to confirm the update.

You can only submit one request to update your contact details per 24 hours.

Allow for a processing period after submitting your update request. It might take up to two weeks for the change to reflect fully in the SASSA system.
