VerifiedSASSA pays social grants over the first working days of each month, in a fixed order: older persons grants first, then disability grants, then children’s grants. These are the official dates for the 2026/27 financial year, from April 2026 to March 2027, as confirmed by SASSA and the Department of Social Development in March 2026.

Children’s grants are the child support grant, the foster child grant and the care dependency grant. Grant-in-aid is paid together with the grant it is added to.
Your grant does not disappear if you do not withdraw it on the payment date. The money stays in your account, so you can avoid the long queues on the first day.
SRD R370 payment dates
The Social Relief of Distress grant does not follow the table above. SASSA approves SRD applications month by month and pays approved applicants in batches, usually during the last week or two of the month. Your personal pay date appears next to the approved month when you check your SRD status. If a month shows approved with no pay date yet, check again after a few days.

Ways to receive your grant
- Into your own bank account. The grant is paid into the account in your name that SASSA has on record.
- With a Postbank black card. The old SASSA gold cards were phased out; the final swap date was 31 August 2026. Replacement cards are free.
- At retailers. You can draw cash with your card at till points in stores such as Shoprite, Checkers, Usave, Pick n Pay, Boxer and Spar.
- SRD grant: you choose how to be paid when you apply or update your details on srd.sassa.gov.za. See SASSA payment methods.
When your money is not in
- Make sure the payment date for your grant type has arrived. Children’s grants pay a day or two after older persons grants.
- For the SRD grant, check that the month shows “approved” with a pay date.
- Confirm SASSA has your correct banking details, and that your account is open and in your own name.
- If you still cannot find the payment, call SASSA on 0800 60 10 11, or Postbank on 0800 53 54 55 for card problems.
