Which SASSA Grants are Available in 2026/27?

What are SASSA Grants?

Types of SASSA Grants Available in 2026/27

SASSA pays these grants, with the amounts that applied from April 2026:

3. Child Support Grant: This grant supports caregivers of children aged 0-18 years. It can be biological parents, adoptive parents, foster parents, or legal guardians. From April 2026 the monthly amount is R580 per child.
4. Foster Care Grant: This grant provides financial support to caregivers looking after children placed in their care by a child protection organization. The amount varies depending on the child’s age.
5. Care Dependency Grant: This grant assists caregivers of people with severe disabilities who require full-time care. The current monthly amount is R1980.
6. Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant: introduced to support unemployed people during the COVID-19 pandemic and extended again in the 2026 Budget, this grant runs to 31 March 2027 and still pays R370 a month.

 How much did SASSA grants increase in 2026?

From April 2026, the older persons, disability and care dependency grants rose by R80 to R2 400, the war veterans grant to R2 420, the foster child grant to R1 290, and the child support grant and grant-in-aid to R580. The SRD stayed at R370.

Can I still apply for the SRD grant?

Yes. The 2026 Budget extended the SRD grant to 31 March 2027, so applications remain open on the SASSA SRD site.
