The Stats SA 2025/27 internship intake closed on 30 April 2025; the Stats SA internship page still shows that advert as current and no next intake is announced.
Statistics South Africa (Stats SA), the national statistics agency that runs the census and publishes the unemployment rate and CPI, takes unemployed graduates into a 24-month internship at its head office in Pretoria. The latest intake is the 2025/27 Internship Programme, advertised through the public service vacancy system with a closing date of 30 April 2025. Every intern post in that advert paid a stipend of R94,326 a year, roughly R7,860 a month.
Stats SA does not run the programme on a fixed calendar. Its internship page archives earlier adverts from 2017/18, January 2020 and August 2022 before the April 2025 call, and it still lists the 2025/27 advert as the current one. No new internship advert had appeared on the Stats SA site by the end of September 2026.

The one-internship rule and other conditions
Stats SA invited unemployed South African graduates holding a completed National Diploma, Bachelor’s, Honours or Master’s degree from an accredited higher-education institution. The condition that rules out most repeat applicants is that the graduate must not have taken part in any earlier internship in the Public Service, whether at Stats SA or another department. Foreign qualifications had to come with a SAQA evaluation certificate. As in all public service recruitment, preference goes to candidates whose appointment improves representivity by race, gender and disability, and shortlisted candidates undergo suitability checks.
Online application and the documents Stats SA wants
The 2025 advert accepted online applications only, through the Stats SA e-recruitment system (the advert gave the address www.statssa.gov.za/recruitment), with every field completed including the declaration. Applicants uploaded a recent, detailed CV giving qualifications and experience with dates, plus copies of qualifications, ID and a driver’s licence where relevant. Those copies did not need certification at the application stage; only shortlisted candidates had to bring certified copies on or before the interview day. Incomplete applications were disqualified automatically, and Stats SA only contacted shortlisted applicants.
Enquiries for the 2025/27 posts went to Mr C Mamabolo on 012 310 6941 and Mr C Letswalo on 012 310 8476. When this page was checked, the e-recruitment address linked from the Stats SA internship page did not load, so graduates waiting for the next round should watch the Stats SA internship page itself.
Stats SA intern posts also appear in the Department of Public Service and Administration circular, so our government internships guide is a second place to catch the next advert. Students still studying towards a statistics or analytics qualification can look at the data science bursaries hub.
