The Tegkor bursary is a donor-funded award administered by the School of Accounting at Nelson Mandela University in Gqeberha. It gives partial funding to accounting students at every level of the chartered accountancy route, from first year to the postgraduate diploma, with preference for the “missing middle” whose families earn too much for NSFAS but struggle to pay fees.

About the Tegkor Nelson Mandela University Bursary

The bursary pays a contribution towards fees for full-time study in the BCom Accounting or BCom Accounting Sciences programmes and the Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting:

• First-year students: up to R12 500.
• Second- and third-year students: up to R7 500.
• Postgraduate students: up to R7 500.

Tegkor Bursary eligibility requirements

• South African citizen studying full-time at Nelson Mandela University.
• First year: at least 80% for Mathematics in Matric, or an Applicant Score of 420 or more, and admission to BCom Accounting or BCom Accounting Sciences.
• Second and third year: an average of at least 70% in first-year modules or 65% in second-year modules, plus documented contribution to society.
• Postgraduate: a weighted average of at least 60% in third year, or 55% in the PGDA.
• Preference for households earning between R350 000 and R600 000 a year.

How to apply for the Tegkor Bursary

1. When the advert appears, open the application on the Nelson Mandela University Moodle Marketing and Events page.
2. Upload a copy of your ID, proof of your parents’ or guardians’ income, your academic transcripts and, if you are in second year or above, evidence of your contribution to society such as tutoring or community work.
3. Submit before the March closing date. Awards are confirmed by the School of Accounting during the first semester.

The 2025 round closed on 14 March 2025. Expect the 2027 round to close in March 2027.
