Applications for the 2027 intake closed on 21 August 2026 and the programme starts on 1 February 2027; Toyota has not published dates for the next intake.
VerifiedToyota South Africa Motors (TSAM), whose job listings place its manufacturing at Prospecton in Durban and its sales teams in Sandton, Johannesburg, takes in a group of graduates each year for a two-year salaried development programme. The 2027 group starts work on 1 February 2027. Recruitment for that intake ran through a Wamly application link and closed on 21 August 2026, so the programme is not taking applications now. This page covers the graduate programme only; Toyota’s study bursary for students still at university is a separate scheme with its own page.
Two years in Durban or Johannesburg
Toyota describes the programme as a structured career progression path meant to shape future leaders of the automotive industry. Its careers site lists three parts to the development: learning on the job, classroom training and mentorship. Graduates are placed in Durban or Johannesburg, depending on the discipline. Toyota also puts its trainees through its in-house training on the Toyota Way, the Toyota Production System and Toyota Business Practices, the company’s methods for continuous improvement and problem-solving on the factory floor and in the office.
Graduates are employed rather than sponsored, so the programme pays a salary. Toyota does not publish the salary figure. The benefits it lists for the 2027 intake are:

Qualifications Toyota recruited for the 2027 intake
The 2027 campaign poster names six groups of disciplines. It told applicants to check the advert itself for the exact qualification wording in each group.

Applicants need a bachelor’s degree or a national diploma, or must be in their final year of one. The one hard academic cut-off Toyota publishes is a final-year aggregate of at least 65%, which the poster marks as essential. Beyond marks, Toyota says it looks for agile learners committed to self-development, self-starters who want to make a meaningful contribution, and resilient people who can drive change and continuous improvement.
The four documents that had to be attached
For the 2027 intake, applications went through Toyota’s graduate programme page on Wamly, the hiring platform Toyota named on its poster (a QR code on the poster led to the same place). Toyota stated that every application must include:
- a CV
- a copy of the applicant’s ID
- a copy of the Grade 12 certificate
- a copy of the most recent academic record
Final-year students applying before graduating need their latest results to show the 65% aggregate, so an up-to-date academic record matters more than usual here.
Where the next intake will be announced
The Graduate Trainee Programme section of jobs.toyota.co.za currently shows no open positions. The same page lets visitors subscribe to email alerts for new graduate postings and join Toyota’s talent community, which is the practical way to hear when the 2028 intake opens. Toyota has not published dates for that round. The 2027 campaign ran in the middle of 2026 and closed in late August, but Toyota has not said the next one will follow the same timetable.
Students who have not yet finished their studies should look at the Toyota South Africa Motors Bursary instead.
