The Tsitsikamma Community Wind Farm Trust (TWFT) was created by the Tsitsikamma Community Wind Farm, a 95 MW wind energy facility in the Eastern Cape that is partly owned by the local AmaMfengu community. Part of the wind farm’s income flows to the Trust, which spends it on education and skills development in the communities around the farm.

The Trust’s bursary programme funds full-time tertiary studies for young people from the Kouga, Koukamma and AmaMfengu areas. It is one of the most generous local bursaries in the province, covering tuition, study material, accommodation and a monthly stipend.

About the Tsitsikamma Wind Farm Trust Bursary

The bursary supports undergraduate degrees, diplomas and higher certificates at public universities and TVET colleges in South Africa. It is awarded for one academic year at a time and renewed for the following year if you pass at least 75% of your modules. The bursary provides:

• Full tuition and registration fees.
• Prescribed textbooks and study material.
• Accommodation.
• A monthly living stipend.
• Mentorship and support for the duration of your studies.

• Business Management and Economics

Tsitsikamma Wind Farm Trust Bursary eligibility criteria

To qualify you must meet all of the following:

• Be a South African citizen and Black as defined in the DTI codes of good practice.
• Live permanently within a 50 km radius of the Tsitsikamma Community Wind Farm, in one of these communities:
  • Kouga: Centerton, Humansdorp, Jeffreys Bay (township), Noorshoek, Oyster Bay, Pellsrus, Rosedale, St Francis Bay (township) and Westerton
  • Koukamma: Clarkson, Kagiso Heights, Kareedouw (township), Katank, New Rest, Nompumelelo, Sanddrif, Thornham, Uitkyk and Woodlands
  • AmaMfengu: Doriskraal, Ekuphumleni, Nuweplaas, Snyklip and Wittekleibosch
• Come from a household with a combined income of no more than R350 000 a year (about R29 000 a month).
• Have completed Matric, or be in Grade 12 with results that qualify you for your chosen course.
• Be accepted or provisionally accepted at a public South African university or TVET college for one of the fields above.
• If you are already studying, have passed at least 75% of your modules in the current year.

The 2025 cycle also limited applicants to ages 18 to 29. The 2026 advert did not repeat the age limit, so confirm with the Trust if you are older.

Tsitsikamma Wind Farm Trust Bursary application requirements

Have these documents scanned and ready before you start the online form:

• Certified copy of your South African ID.
• Certified copy of your Matric certificate, or your latest Grade 12 results.
• Certified copy of your full tertiary academic record, if you are already studying.
• Acceptance or provisional acceptance letter from the university or TVET college.
• Proof of address: a municipal account, a letter from your ward councillor, or an affidavit.
• Proof of household income for your parents or guardians: recent payslips, a SASSA letter, an affidavit if unemployed, or a death certificate where a parent is deceased.
• Three months of bank statements for the household.

How to apply

1. Wait for the Trust to announce the 2027 cycle, expected in October 2026. Announcements are made on the Trust’s website, on community notice boards and through local news outlets such as Kouga News.
2. Open the online application form for the 2027 cycle. The Trust uses a new form link each year, so do not reuse the 2026 link.
3. Complete every section and upload the documents listed above. Incomplete applications are not considered.
4. Submit before the closing time. The 2026 cycle closed at 16:00 on the closing day and late applications were rejected.
5. Shortlisted applicants are contacted for verification and interviews before awards are confirmed in January.

Tsitsikamma Wind Farm Trust Bursary closing date

The 2026 cycle closed on 13 December 2025 at 16:00. The 2025 cycle closed on 10 January 2025. The 2027 closing date has not been published; expect it to fall in mid-December 2026. Students in the same area should also look at the Kouga Wind Farm bursary, which serves neighbouring communities.
