Most South African bursaries chase university students. The Access Trust does the opposite: it funds young people at the six public TVET colleges in the Western Cape, in the trades and vocational programmes that lead straight to work. It is a small Cape Town non-profit, and its bursary is one of the few reliable sources of college funding in the province.
About the Access Trust Bursary
- Colleges: the College of Cape Town, South Cape College, West Coast College, Boland College, Northlink College and False Bay College.
- Fields: electrical engineering, construction and civil engineering, business and management, ICT, early childhood development, farming management, travel and tourism, sport fitness and management, hospitality, performing arts and practical programmes.
- Covers full-time post-Matric study at an approved college, with the package set per student.
Access Trust Bursary eligibility requirements
- Aged 18 to 28.
- A Matric certificate with at least 50%.
- Enrolled, or accepted, full-time at one of the six approved Western Cape TVET colleges.
- Able to show financial hardship. Refugee and asylum documentation is accepted in place of an ID.
How to apply for the Access Trust Bursary
- Download the application form from accesstrust.org.za or collect it from your college.
- Attach a certified ID or refugee or asylum document, your Matric certificate or academic transcripts, three months of your parents’ income documents, a character reference from a teacher or community member and a motivation letter about your career plans.
- Email it to info@accesstrust.org.za, or post or hand-deliver it to the Wynberg office, before 30 November.
