Mid-year study at a TVET college depends on the programme. NC(V) runs for a full year and starts in January only, but occupational qualifications and some N4 to N6 programmes run in shorter cycles. The NSFAS 2026 eligibility criteria say NSFAS-funded occupational qualifications have two intakes a year, in January and July.

How to apply for a mid-year start
- Check the college website around April and May for mid-year programme lists.
- Apply online as for January, with your latest results and ID.
- Confirm the programme is not closed by the N-course teach-out.
- Register on the date given in your offer.
NSFAS for mid-year students
- NSFAS counts a TVET academic term as a year, a semester or a trimester.
- It opens separate windows for trimester students. In 2026 the Trimester 3 window ran from 14 to 23 August after NSFAS moved it earlier.
- Funding is only confirmed once the college registers you.
Engineering N4 intakes are ending first under the NATED teach-out. Ask the college whether your N-level will still run next semester.
