VerifiedThe entry rules for NATED courses have not changed much, but who can still enrol has. N1 to N3 stopped taking new students on 1 January 2024, and N4 to N6 intakes are closing programme by programme. These are the requirements that applied, and what they mean for applicants in 2026 and 2027.

Entry requirements for N4 to N6

| N4 Business Studies | Matric, or an NC(V) Level 4 or N3 in a related field |
| N4 Engineering Studies | Matric with mathematics and physical science, or N3 with the relevant subjects |

Colleges set minimum marks and subject combinations for each programme, and may refuse entry where the programme has no remaining intake.
Can you still enrol?
- New student, N1 to N3: no; these programmes closed on 1 January 2024.
- New student, N4: only where your college still has an intake under the teach-out. Engineering intakes end before business studies.
- Continuing student, N5 or N6: usually yes during the teach-out; register as early as possible.
Alternatives if intakes have closed
- NC(V) programmes from Grade 9.
- Occupational qualifications registered with the QCTO.
- Higher certificates or diplomas at universities, if you meet their requirements.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need matric for N4?
Usually yes, or a relevant N3 or NC(V) Level 4. Engineering N4 also needs mathematics and physical science.
Can I enrol for NATED courses in 2027?
Only for programmes and levels your college still offers under the teach-out. Many engineering N4 intakes ended in 2026.
