When Are the Matric Results for 2026 Released?

For the Matric exams written in November 2025, the Department of Basic Education (DBE) scheduled the results release so that individual candidates can access their results from 6 a.m. on 13 January 2026

The results are published online, and learners can also collect their official statements of results from their schools or examination centres.

What Does Remark Status Mean?

Your remark status shows whether your exam script has been remarked or re‑checked after you applied because you believed your marks were incorrect.

A remark means your script was fully re‑assessed, while a re‑check means only the marking and totalling of marks were checked.

Remarks and re‑check results are released later than the original Matric results and reflect any changes to your subject marks.

How Do You Apply for a Remark or Re‑check?

If you believe your original marks were incorrect, you can apply for a remark or re‑check once your Matric results are released.

Applications generally open on the day of results release (13 January 2026) and close around 27 January 2026.

You can apply:

  • At your school or examination centre.
  • At your district education office.
  • Online via the government e‑services portal.

How to Check Your Matric Results Online

The official way to check your Matric and remark status online is through the Department of Basic Education’s results platform:

  1. Visit the Department of Basic Education Matric Results page on the DBE website.
  2. Enter your exam number (and sometimes your ID number if requested).
  3. Submit to view your status.
This online system will show your overall result status and level of passing. If remark results are available, some provincial systems will show updated marks once DBE uploads them.

Can You See the Remark Status Online?

While the national DBE portal shows your overall results, remarks and re‑check results may be displayed separately or updated later.

Some provincial education portals allow you to check updated marks once they are available.

Always check both the national DBE portal and your provincial portal for the most up‑to‑date information.

Checking Results Through SMS or USSD

If the website is slow or unavailable due to high traffic, you can check your results by:

  • SMS: Send your exam number to the designated SMS result service (e.g., 45856). Standard SMS rates apply.
  • USSD: Dial 12045856# on your mobile phone, then enter your exam number when prompted. Charges may apply.

These methods will return your result status and can be useful when online access is limited.

Using Mobile Apps to Check Your Results

Some official apps endorsed by the Department of Basic Education, such as MatricsMate or provincial apps, let you check results on a smartphone.

You usually need to:

  1. Download the app from your phone’s app store.
  2. Create an account using your ID and contact details.
  3. Enter your exam number to view your results and status updates.

What If Your Results Do Not Appear Online?

Some candidates’ results may not appear on the DBE online results page due to verification checks or technical issues. If this happens:

  • Visit your school or exam centre to collect your official Statement of Results.
  • Contact your district or provincial education office for support.

Missing results online do not necessarily mean you failed or have no results; it may be a system delay.

When Are Remark Results Released?

Remarks and re‑check outcomes are typically released several weeks after the result release date.

For the 2025 Matric exams, remark results were expected from around 13 March 2026.

These finalised results must be collected from your school or centre where you wrote your exams.

Why You Should Check Your Remark Status

Checking your remark status ensures you know whether your application was processed and whether your marks have changed.

An improved mark could affect your final pass level, eligibility for tertiary study, bursaries, or job applications.

Always confirm results through official channels.
