NWU NBT Requirements 2027: Admission Policy

The North‑West University (NWU) is a major public university in South Africa with multiple campuses and a wide array of undergraduate qualifications.

APS is the primary academic metric NWU uses in evaluating applications. 

This means that even if you write the NBTs, NWU admissions officials generally will not request or use your NBT results when assessing eligibility for mainstream undergraduate entry.

5. After registering, you will receive a reference number and confirmation of your test date. Keep this for application purposes to universities that require NBT results.

Registering early, ideally during your Grade 12 year, ensures that your results are available in time for other university application deadlines.

How NWU Uses Admission Results Where Required

NWU’s admissions are based on clear academic requirements. 

Applicants must have a valid National Senior Certificate with the appropriate endorsement for degree study, meet faculty subject minimums, and achieve an APS that meets or exceeds the faculty threshold. 

Meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee placement because some programmes have limited space and additional selection procedures. 

Applicants are ranked based on their academic achievement.

For competitive qualifications with selection lists, NWU may consider a combination of APS and other assessments specific to those programmes.

4. External bursaries from government or private sponsors – Many external awards consider academic excellence or leadership potential. Some external sponsors may choose to look at additional measures like test results, but this depends on the specific bursary criteria.
