TUT requires an application fee before admission is processed, followed by a minimum payment that must be paid before you can complete your online registration.
Tuition fees vary by subject and programme, so costs differ depending on your faculty.
Knowing these amounts and how they are charged will help you plan your study finances effectively.
Application Fee 2027 (Non-refundable)
To apply for admission to TUT for 2027, first-time applicants must pay a non-refundable application fee of R240.
This fee covers the administrative cost of processing your application and must be paid before the application can be processed.
This application fee is non-refundable even if your application is unsuccessful.
You may pay it by electronic funds transfer (EFT), direct bank deposit, or other official methods set by TUT.
After you receive your offer of study, you will be given further instructions on how to proceed with registration and payment of other compulsory fees.
Registration Fee 2027 (Initial Payment)
The registration fee is the minimum payment you must make before completing your registration at TUT.
All students, both new and returning, are required to pay a minimum initial payment of R1 500 before they can register.
This amount serves as the first instalment of your tuition and must appear in your student account before registration closes.
If you have already paid a confirmation deposit after receiving your offer letter, this amount may be adjusted against the minimum payment you need to make at registration.
If you fail to complete registration by the official deadline, an additional late registration fee may be charged.
If you are planning to live in university-managed residence accommodation, you will be required to pay a separate residence advance payment before residence registration.
Tuition Fee Structure per Faculty
Tuition fees at TUT are not a single flat amount but are calculated per subject or module that you register for.
Each faculty sets fees depending on the number of credits and curriculum.
This means your total tuition cost is based on the subjects you enrol in for the year.
TUT faculties include:
- Faculty of Arts & Design
- Faculty of Economics & Finance
- Faculty of Engineering & the Built Environment
- Faculty of Humanities
- Faculty of Information and Communication Technology
- Faculty of Management Sciences
- Faculty of Science
- Tshwane School for Business and Society
Because tuition is subject-based, you can request an official fee quotation via the TUT Fees Quotation Portal.
This tool lets you enter your subject codes to generate an accurate 2027 tuition estimate for your specific programme.
Generally, tuition fees are payable in advance, and payment deadlines are set each academic year. If you repeat a subject, you must pay the fee for that subject again.
International students may also pay additional levies as determined by the university’s fee policy each year.

Fees for NSFAS Funded Students
If you are funded by the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS), NSFAS can cover your registration and tuition fees directly with TUT if your funding is approved before registration closes.
To benefit from this, ensure that your NSFAS funding confirmation letter or approved student status is submitted to the TUT Student Finance office before the registration deadline.
If NSFAS funding is not confirmed in time, you may still be required to make the minimum registration payment yourself to complete your registration.
Keep all documentation up to date and submit your NSFAS status as early as possible.
