If you plan to study at VUT in the 2027 academic year, this guide sets out the minimum requirements from VUT’s 2027 Undergraduate Minimum Admission Requirements. VUT opened 2027 applications on 21 May 2026 and closes them for South African applicants on 30 October 2026. Remember that meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance.

Faculty of Applied & Computer Sciences

Dip: Analytical Chemistry (3 years)

VUT asks for English at Level 4, Mathematics or Technical Mathematics at Level 4 (or Engineering Mathematics N4 at 60%), Physical Science at Level 4 (or Engineering Sciences N4 at 60%) and a combined Level 9 in any three other subjects. Total APS: 21 (excluding LO)

Dip: Biotechnology (3 years)

  • English: Level 4
  • Mathematics at Level 4, or Engineering Mathematics at 60%
  • Physical Science at Level 4, or Engineering Science at 60%
  • Life Sciences: Level 4

Total APS: 23 (excluding Life Orientation)

Dip: Environmental Science (3 years)

  • English: Level 4
  • Mathematics: Level 4
  • Physical Science: Level 4

Total APS: 21 (excluding LO)

Department of Computer Sciences

Dip: Information Technology (3 years)

  • English: Level 4

Total APS: 26 with Mathematics or Technical Mathematics, or 28 with Mathematical Literacy (excluding LO). VUT counts a maximum of six subjects.

Department of Natural Sciences

Dip: Agricultural Management (3 years)

  • English: Level 4
  • Mathematics or Technical Mathematics: Level 3
  • Mathematics Literacy: Level 4
  • Agriculture or Life Sciences: Level 3

APS: 21 with Mathematics or Technical Mathematics, or 22 with Mathematical Literacy (excluding LO)

Bachelor of Health Sciences: Medical Laboratory Science (4 years)

  • English: Level 4
  • Mathematics: Level 4
  • Physical Science: Level 4
  • Life Science: Level 5

Total APS: 27 (excluding LO)

Recommended subjects: Business Studies, Economics, Computer Studies, and Geography.
Additional requirements: Industrial knowledge (e.g., job shadowing) and possible placement testing.

Department of Applied Physical Sciences

Dip: Non-Destructive Testing

  • English: Level 3
  • Mathematics or Technical Mathematics: Level 3
  • Physical or Technical Science: Level 4

Total APS: 19 (excluding LO)

Faculty of Management Sciences

Accounting & Finance Programmes

Courses include Financial Information Systems, Cost & Management Accounting, and Internal Auditing.

  • Mathematical Literacy: Level 5 for Financial Information Systems and Cost & Management Accounting, Level 6 for Internal Auditing

Human Resources, Logistics & Marketing

All programmes require:

A compulsory uniform is required for practicals.
Applicants aged 23 or older with industry experience may qualify through age exemption.
