MUT does not accept direct online applications on its own website. Instead, all first‑time undergraduate applications are made via the CAO portal.
After your application is submitted and payment is confirmed, you can track your admission progress using the CAO status tracker.
Checking your application status helps you know whether your application was received, is under review, has missing documents, or has been offered provisional or final admission.
You will need your CAO reference number and personal details like your ID or passport number to log into the system.
How to Check Your MUT Application Status
To view your MUT application status for the 2027 academic year, use the CAO status tracking tool.
Follow these steps to check your MUT application online.
- Visit the official Central Applications Office (CAO) website.
- Click on “My Application” or “Check My Application” on the CAO homepage.
- Enter your CAO reference number exactly as shown on your application notification.
- Enter your South African ID number or passport number (for international students) in the required field.
- Confirm any additional details asked on the page such as your surname.
- Click the Submit or Check Status button.
The portal will display your current application status, including whether it has been received, is under review, or has an outcome.
You should also keep an eye on your email and SMS messages because CAO and MUT may send official updates through those channels.
What Your Status Means
When you check your CAO application status, you may see different messages that tell you where your application stands in the admissions process.
- Application Received
This means CAO has recorded your application and forwarded it to MUT for evaluation. No decision has been made yet.
- In Progress / Under Review
This shows that the admissions team is reviewing your academics and supporting documents. No final decision has been issued.
- Awaiting Documents
This means additional documents are required before the university can complete its evaluation.
You should upload or submit the required documents as soon as possible.
- Provisional Admission
This indicates that MUT intends to offer you a place provided certain conditions are met.
Conditions may include final matric results or verified certificates.
- Final/Approved Offer
This status confirms that your application has been successful and you have been offered admission.
The CAO portal may provide further instructions on how to accept your offer and prepare for registration.
- Rejected / Unsuccessful
This means the university could not offer you a place, either because you did not meet requirements or the programme is full.
Check for any messages explaining why your application was unsuccessful.
Official decisions are sometimes also communicated by email or SMS, so checking those regularly is recommended.
Troubleshooting Common Login Issues
Some applicants may experience problems when trying to check their application status on the CAO portal.
Here are common issues and how to fix them.
Incorrect CAO reference number
Make sure you enter the exact CAO number you received when you submitted your application.
Typos or missing digits will prevent the portal from finding your record.
Wrong ID or passport number
Your ID or passport number must match what you entered on your CAO application.
Mismatches will stop the system from retrieving your status.
Status not yet available
It can take a few days after you submit your application for the CAO status system to update. If no status appears, check again later.
Portal slow or not loading
Heavy traffic on the CAO website during peak periods may slow down access. Refresh the page or try again later.
Still cannot find your status
If you still cannot view your status online, contact the CAO support team for help.
