At UCT, status tracking allows applicants to see whether their application has been received, whether documentation is complete, and whether offers have been made.

The university uses an online student administration system known as PeopleSoft Student Administration Self Service so applicants can log in with the credentials they received after submitting their application.

How to Check Your UCT Application Status

To check your application status at UCT, you must log in to the official student portal that UCT provides for applicant and student services.

  1. Find the UCT Student Portal
Use the official UCT student system link: https://www.student.uct.ac.za/. This is the access point for the PeopleSoft Student Administration Self Service system where status is displayed.
  2. Have Your Credentials Ready
After you submit your application for 2027 study, UCT will send you an acknowledgement email. This email contains your applicant number and initial login credentials for PeopleSoft Self Service. If you have not received this email within a few days of applying, check your spam or junk folder.
  3. Log In to PeopleSoft Self Service
    On the portal page:
    • Enter your User ID (often your applicant number in upper case).
    • Enter the Password you set or were provided.
    • Click the Sign In or Login button.
This system will take you to your personalised dashboard.
  4. Go to Admissions Status
    Once logged in:
    • Look for the Admissions section or tile on your homepage.
    • Click it to open your application details.
    • Select the tab or link labelled Admissions Status or similar to view your current application status.
This page will show updates on whether your application is under review, pending documents, accepted, or declined.

If you are a postgraduate applicant, the process is effectively the same, but you may also find status links under the Postgraduate Hub section for postgraduate applications.

What Your UCT Application Status Means

Understanding the status messages on your application can help you know where you stand in the admissions process.

Some messages include:

  1. Application Received
This status means UCT has successfully received your application. It does not mean you have been accepted. It simply confirms receipt. You will often see this message soon after applying.
  2. Under Review / Processing
If your status shows that your application is being reviewed, it means UCT admissions staff are evaluating your academic records, documents, and other supporting information. This stage can take time, especially during peak application periods.
  3. Pending Documents / Information Required
Sometimes your status may indicate that UCT requires additional documents or clarifications. This can happen if required documents such as certified transcripts, proof of results, or identification are not yet uploaded or emailed to the admissions office. If this occurs, follow the instructions provided or contact the relevant admissions office.
  4. Conditional Offer
Some applicants receive a conditional offer. This means you meet the essential entry requirements, but one or more conditions must still be met before final admission can be granted. Conditions could include final school results, English language requirements, or NBT scores. You should carefully read the conditions and submit everything requested by the date specified.
  5. Unconditional Offer / Accepted
This status shows that you have met all entry requirements and your place has been confirmed for the programme you applied to. UCT will provide further instructions on registration and enrolment.
  6. Application Declined
If your application does not meet the criteria or required documentation is still missing after follow‑up, your application may be declined. If you think there has been an error, contact the admissions office with your applicant number and relevant details.

Troubleshooting Common Login Issues

Logging in to the UCT applicant portal can occasionally present challenges.

Here are common issues and how to fix them:

  1. Incorrect Username or Password
Make sure your User ID is in uppercase letters if that is required by the system, especially for applicant or student numbers. Consider resetting your password if you cannot recall it exactly. Some portals have a forgot password or reset function. If not, contact UCT’s student support.
  2. Not Receiving the Acknowledgement Email
If you applied and have not received the email with login details within three working days, check spam folders first. If you still do not see it, contact UCT admissions at admissions@uct.ac.za for undergraduate applications or the relevant postgraduate admissions email.
  3. Account Locked After Multiple Failed Login Attempts
If the portal locks you out due to repeated incorrect logins, wait a short period and try again. If the account remains locked, reach out to UCT’s student self‑service helpdesk by email at sss‑helpdesk@uct.ac.za for assistance.
  4. Portal Loading Problems
If the portal does not load, ensure your internet connection is stable. Clear your browser cache or try a different browser. Sometimes, scheduled maintenance can make the portal temporarily unavailable. Visit the official UCT announcements page for notifications.
