DUT has a non-refundable application fee, a minimum registration payment called the first instalment, and tuition fees that vary depending on your programme and subjects.

Fees must be paid by specific deadlines to secure your place and complete online registration.

DUT Application Fee 2027 (Non-refundable)

To apply to study at DUT, you must pay a non-refundable application fee when submitting your application.

This fee covers administrative costs for processing your application and must be paid before it can be considered.

Official DUT information confirms that applications are submitted through the Central Applications Office (CAO), and the administration fees vary by applicant type and when you submit your application.

For South African citizens, the application fee is R250 if paid before the early deadline. International applicants usually pay slightly higher fees.

The application fee is non-refundable even if your admission is not successful.

You can apply online through the DUT Online Application Portal.

DUT Registration Fee 2027 (Initial Payment)

Once your application has been accepted, you must make a minimum initial payment to confirm your registration.

This payment is compulsory on the day of registration and includes part of your tuition fees.

DUT calls this the first instalment, and the amount depends on whether you are a non-residence or residence student and whether you are registering for the full academic year or one semester only.

Based on the most recent official registration guide, the provisional first instalment amounts are:

  • Non-Residence Students (Tuition Only): Annual – about R5 260; Semester – about R3 229.
  • Residence Students (Tuition plus Residence): Annual – about R11 242; Semester – about R6 896.

Students registering for both semesters at the start of the year will be charged the annual first instalment even if they complete studies mid-year.

If you register later than the official registration period, a late registration penalty may be applied as determined by DUT’s fee rules.

DUT Tuition Fee Structure per Faculty

DUT tuition fees are not the same for every student.

Fees depend on the faculty you are registered in, the specific modules you take, and whether you are a South African, SADC, or international student.

Tuition fees are typically published in fee booklets or departmental handbooks on the DUT website.

These documents list fees per qualification and per subject code.

If you want exact amounts for your programme, you can view or download the fee publications from the DUT Fees Webpage.

International students from non-SADC countries generally pay a foreign levy on top of local tuition fees, while SADC region students often pay local tuition with a smaller foreign levy.

Because tuition is calculated per subject, your total annual fee depends on the modules you register for and the credit load of your qualification.

You can also request a fee quotation or subject fee schedule from the DUT Finance Department to estimate your costs accurately.

How to Pay Your Fees (Bank Details)

DUT encourages a cashless system for paying student fees.

You may pay using electronic funds transfer (EFT), direct bank deposit, online e-payment, or in-person at the official cashiers on campus.

Payments must include your student number as the reference so they are correctly allocated to your account.

Fees for NSFAS Funded Students

If you are funded by the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS), NSFAS will pay your tuition and registration fees directly to DUT once your funding is approved and confirmed before registration closes.

NSFAS funding must be finalised early to avoid delays that may affect your registration process.

Even with NSFAS funding, you may still need to pay any required family contribution or minimum first instalment if NSFAS has not confirmed full funding by registration day.

This payment ensures your registration is completed on time.
