University of the Western Cape (UWC), located in Bellville, accepts applications each year for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes through its official online application portal.
If you plan to study in 2027, it is important to know the application dates, admission requirements, and the correct steps to complete your online application.
When do UWC applications open for 2027?
Applications for the 2027 academic year open on 2 April 2026.
Both undergraduate and postgraduate applicants, including international students, must apply online through the official UWC application portal.
What are the UWC application closing dates?
Different programmes have different deadlines:
- Bachelor of Dentistry and Oral Health programmes: close 31 August 2026
- All other undergraduate and postgraduate programmes: close 30 September 2026
All required documents must be uploaded before the closing date. Late or incomplete applications are generally not considered.
Admission requirements for UWC undergraduate programmes
Applicants must meet the National Senior Certificate (NSC) requirements as well as the UWC Admission Point Score (APS) criteria.
Typical requirements include:
- A Bachelor’s pass with at least four subjects at level 4 (50–59%)
- Meeting the minimum APS required for the chosen programme
APS requirements vary depending on the faculty or qualification.
Examples include:
- LLB (Bachelor of Laws): English Code 4 and Mathematics Code 3
- BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery): APS 40 with Mathematics, Physical Sciences, and Life Sciences at Code 4
Because some programmes are highly competitive, meeting the minimum APS does not guarantee admission.
Requirements for postgraduate and international applicants
Postgraduate applicants must submit their applications online and upload all required documents before the closing date.
- Most postgraduate programmes close 30 September 2026
- Programmes offered by the School of Government may close earlier (usually 30 August 2026)
Incomplete or missing documentation may result in the application not being considered.
International applicants must provide:
- A certified copy of their passport
- Qualification evaluation from the South African Qualifications Authority or a USAf exemption certificate
- Proof of English language proficiency where required
Applications from international students are only processed once all documentation has been submitted.
