When do UNIVEN applications open for 2027?
Applications for the 2027 academic year open on 1 April 2026 through the official UNIVEN application portal on www.univen.ac.za.
All applicants — including South African citizens and international students — must complete their applications online.
What is the closing date for UNIVEN applications?
The closing date for most qualifications — including degrees, diplomas, certificates, honours, and postgraduate diplomas — is 26 September 2026.
Late applications are usually not accepted, and may only be considered if a programme still has available space.
Undergraduate admission requirements at UNIVEN
Admission requirements vary depending on the type of qualification.
Bachelor’s degree programmes
Applicants must have:
- A National Senior Certificate (NSC) with Bachelor’s pass
- At least four 20-credit subjects at level 4 (50–59%)
- A minimum APS of 26
Diploma programmes
Applicants must have:
- An NSC qualification
- At least four subjects at level 3 (40–49%)
Higher certificate programmes
Applicants must have:
- A National Senior Certificate certified by Umalusi
Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission, as programmes may require higher marks or additional subject requirements depending on demand.
Requirements for postgraduate and international applicants
Postgraduate applicants must provide:
- A relevant bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification
- Official academic transcripts
- Additional documents such as a research proposal or CV, where required
International applicants must submit:
- A certified copy of their passport
- Qualification evaluation from the South African Qualifications Authority
- Proof of English language proficiency where applicable
- Certified academic records
Additional documents such as marriage certificates, divorce certificates, or parent/guardian identification (for applicants under 21) may also be required.
How to apply online to the University of Venda
Follow these steps to complete your application:
- Visit the official website www.univen.ac.za.
- Click Apply Now to access the online application portal.
- Create a 5-digit PIN to start your application.
- Enter your ID number or passport number, email address, and mobile number.
- Complete the online application form.
- Upload all required supporting documents.
- Submit your application.
Applicants can save their application and return later if they need to complete it in stages.
Once submitted, you will receive a UNIVEN student number, which confirms your application has been received but does not mean you have been admitted.
Is there an application fee at UNIVEN?
The University of Venda does not charge an application fee for undergraduate or postgraduate applications.
All applications for the 2027 intake can be submitted free of charge through the official portal.
