Stellenbosch University Application Fee 2027 (Non‑refundable)

When applying to study at Stellenbosch University, a non‑refundable application fee is required.

The official SU International page for full‑degree students shows that for 2026:

  1. South African citizens, permanent residents, refugee status and asylum seekers: R100 application fee.
  2. International applicants: R400 application fee for degree‑seeking programmes (excluding Stellenbosch Business School).
  3. Stellenbosch Business School applicants: Application fees are R1 050 for MBA programmes and R850 for other programmes.
These amounts are payable with your application and are non‑refundable, even if your application is withdrawn or unsuccessful.

The official application fee for 2027 has not been published yet. When SU releases the 2027 figures, you will be able to view them on the Student Registration and Fees page.

Stellenbosch University Registration Fee 2027 (Initial Payment)

Stellenbosch University requires students to pay a compulsory initial amount before registration can be activated.

For the 2026 academic year, the official SU fee documentation outlines a minimum compulsory initial fee that must be received before registration.

This applies to both South African and international students.

While the exact 2027 amounts have not been published, the 2026 figures give a reliable indication of what to expect until the update is released.

For degree‑seeking students, the initial payment commonly includes the tuition component, academic service fees and any compulsory levies that must be paid before you can register.

The 2026 fee guidance states that if the minimum compulsory initial fee is not received before registration, your registration will not activate and a financial block may be applied to your account.

Specific amounts for the registration deposit or compulsory initial payment are usually published in the SU calendar or fee book each year.

These payments ensure you are financially cleared for registration before academic services and module access are granted.

Tuition Fee Structure per Faculty

Stellenbosch University sets tuition fees based on the programme and academic load.

Tuition is not a single flat amount but varies by field of study, level of qualification (undergraduate, honours, master’s or doctoral), and your total credit load.

The most recent estimates from SU’s official fee pages reflect the 2026 fees as projected amounts for study costs by programme.

These are good indicators until the 2027 schedule is published:

  1. Undergraduate programmes such as Bachelor of Arts or BSc are estimated at fee ranges typical for SU undergraduate degrees.
  2. Professional degrees like Bachelor of Law (LLB) and Engineering often have higher tuition components.
  3. Postgraduate and master’s programmes have separate fee rates, often published with additional components like dissertation or research fees.
Estimates for specific 2026 programme fees are available on official SU pages but will be updated for 2027 once the official SU fee schedule is released.

If you need a personalised estimate before the 2027 fees are published, SU provides a fee quotation tool that can generate a provisional fee quote based on your intended qualification and modules.

This is accessible via the official SU student portal.

How to Pay Your Stellenbosch University Fees (Bank Details)

Stellenbosch University requires that all student fee payments be made into its official SU student fees bank account.

When making payments, use your SU student number as the payment reference so that the funds are correctly allocated to your account.

While the specific bank account details for 2027 are not yet published, the 2026 fee documentation shows that payment channels include:

  1. Electronic funds transfer (EFT)
  2. Online card payment via the SU student portal
  3. SnapScan or other approved e‑payment methods
These payments should reflect in the SU account before the registration closing date, otherwise you may not be cleared to complete registration. The exact banking details for the 2027 academic year will be published with the official fees when released. In the meantime, check the SU Finance and Payment Options page for updates once available.

Stellenbosch University Fees for NSFAS Funded Students

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) covers tuition and initial payments on behalf of eligible students at Stellenbosch University.

If your NSFAS funding is approved before the registration deadline, NSFAS will settle your tuition fees and compulsory initial payments directly with SU, allowing you to register without making the upfront payment yourself.

Students must complete the official NSFAS application process and submit all required documentation in time to ensure funding confirmation reaches SU before registration closes.

Once NSFAS funding is confirmed, you will be able to register through the usual SU registration channels.

For the latest NSFAS information and deadlines, use the official NSFAS website.
