To gain admission to UL for the 2027 academic year, South African students must meet general admission requirements and achieve a required Admission Point Score (APS) based on their National Senior Certificate (NSC) results.
How to Calculate Your APS for UL in 2027
The Admission Point Score (APS) is a number that the University of Limpopo uses to assess your Grade 12 results.
It is based on your achievement levels in six recognised NSC subjects, excluding Life Orientation.
The higher your APS, the more programmes you may qualify for.
Step‑by‑Step APS Calculation Instructions
- Obtain your NSC results from your Matric certificate after you complete Grade 12.
- List all your subject marks in percentage form (for subjects you completed).
- Convert each subject percentage into an APS point using the UL APS table below.
- Select your best six subjects (Life Orientation is excluded from the APS total).
- Add the APS points of those six subjects to get your total APS.
- Check the programme requirements to see if your APS meets or exceeds the minimum required score for your chosen course.
UL APS Points Table (NSC % to Points)
Here is the official University of Limpopo APS conversion table based on NSC achievement levels.
This table shows how NSC percentages translate into APS points used for admission.
| NSC Percentage | APS Points |
| 80–99% | 7 |
| 70–79% | 6 |
| 60–69% | 5 |
| 50–59% | 4 |
| 40–49% | 3 |
| 30–39% | 2 |
| 0–29% | 1 |
In this system, the highest possible APS you can score for one subject is 7 points.
You add the points for your six best subjects to find your total APS score.
Example Calculation
If your six best NSC subjects have achievement levels of 7, 6, 6, 5, 4, and 3, then your APS total would be:
- Subject 1 (80–99%) = 7 points
- Subject 2 (70–79%) = 6 points
- Subject 3 (70–79%) = 6 points
- Subject 4 (60–69%) = 5 points
- Subject 5 (50–59%) = 4 points
- Subject 6 (40–49%) = 3 points
Total APS = 31 points. This score can then be compared with the minimum APS required for your chosen degree.
