UWC requires students to make a minimum upfront payment before registration, which includes the compulsory registration fee.

This amount must be paid before you can complete online registration.

Tuition fees vary depending on your degree and modules, and payments are governed by official UWC policies.

UWC Application Fee 2027 (Non-refundable)

UWC does not charge a separate application fee for South African applicants when submitting an application online through the official application channels.

There is no publicly published application fee from the university itself for 2027 at this time.

For international applicants, UWC typically requires full payment of tuition and residence fees up front on registration, but not specifically an application fee separate from the costs on registration.

This means that international students must ensure their full fee liability is settled before registration can be confirmed.

UWC Registration Fee 2027 (Initial Payment)

Before you can register for the 2027 academic year, UWC requires a minimum upfront payment that covers part of your tuition and includes the registration fee.

This payment must be made and reflected on your student account before financial clearance is given and registration can proceed.

For South African students with no previous debt, the standard upfront payment for financial clearance is R4 290 if you will not be residing in university accommodation, and R4 840 if you have been placed in a university residence.

This amount includes the registration fee (about R1 810) and part of your tuition fees.

If you have outstanding fees from previous years, you must contact the Student Credit Management Office to arrange clearance before you can register.

Written proof of bursaries or third-party funding must be uploaded to the student financial portal to confirm coverage of costs before registration.

UWC does not allow registration until the required initial payment is made and cleared in your student account.

UWC Tuition Fee Structure per Faculty

UWC does not publish a single flat tuition fee for all students.

Tuition fees are charged per module within your chosen programme, and the total cost depends on the number and credit value of modules you register for in a year.

For undergraduate programmes, annual tuition fees for South African students fall roughly within typical ranges:

  • Bachelor degrees such as BA, BSc, BCom generally range from around R39 000 to R55 000 per year depending on the programme and modules taken.
  • More specialised or professional degrees such as BChD (Dentistry) can be higher than typical undergraduate fees.

Postgraduate tuition varies by qualification level and research requirements.

The exact amount for your programme can be found in the official UWC Fees Booklet or requested from the Student Accounts Office.

Tuition fees do not include residence or other non-tuition costs such as textbooks or personal expenses.

UWC requires that 50 percent of the total outstanding fees are paid by 30 April, with the remaining 50 percent due by 31 July (or earlier for some programmes).

How to Pay Your Fees (Bank Details)

The University of the Western Cape provides official banking details for students to make electronic funds transfer (EFT) or direct bank deposit payments toward registration, tuition, and related fees.

When making payments, always use your student number as the reference so the payment can be allocated correctly to your account.

Official UWC Bank Details:

  1. Bank: ABSA Bank
  2. Account Name: UWC STUDENT DEPOSIT ACCOUNT
  3. Branch: Public Sector Western Cape, Bellville
  4. Account Number: 40 4960 47 40
  5. Branch Code: 632005
  6. SWIFT Code: ABSAZAJJ
  7. Reference: Your student number, surname and names

Payments can be made via EFT, direct bank deposit, online card payment, or in person at the UWC cashiers.

Allow sufficient time for payments to reflect in your student account before registration deadlines.

Fees for NSFAS Funded Students

If you have approved funding from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS), NSFAS will pay your registration and tuition fees directly to UWC once your funding is confirmed before the registration deadline.

This means that NSFAS-funded students may not need to make the upfront payment themselves if the funding documents are submitted on time and accepted by the Financial Aid Office.

Bursary or funding documentation from NSFAS must be vetted and uploaded in advance so that Student Credit Management can provide financial clearance for registration.

If your NSFAS funding is not confirmed by the time of registration, you may be required to make the upfront payment yourself to secure your registration.
