VerifiedVulamathuba Empumelelo is the community development arm of Cape Town social housing company Communicare. Its bursary fund helps low-income Cape Town residents, including adult learners, study for scarce skills.
About the Vulamathuba Empumelelo Bursary
- For undergraduate study in scarce or critical skills.
- Covers registration and exam fees, tuition up to R40 000 and materials up to R5 000.
- Full-time or part-time study at public TVET colleges and universities.
Eligibility requirements
- South African citizen or permanent resident aged 19 to 50.
- Living in the City of Cape Town, with Matric.
- Household income of no more than R400 000 a year.
- Preference for Communicare tenants and previously disadvantaged students.
How to apply
- Check vulamathuba.org.za for the 2027 call.
- Prepare certified ID, results, proof of residence, household documents and three months of bank statements.
- Apply through the online portal before the closing date.
Closing date
12 December in the last round (2025, for 2026 studies). No 2027 date has been announced.
