Agricultural Sector Education and Training Authority (AgriSETA)

AgriSETA, the Agricultural Sector Education and Training Authority, funds, coordinates and quality-assures training for agriculture. AgriSETA describes its role as creating opportunities for social, economic and employment growth in agri-enterprises through education and training in both primary agriculture, such as farming, and secondary agriculture, such as processing.

An annual bursary window that closes today

AgriSETA’s bursary funding window runs from 1 August to 15 September every year. Applications for the 2027 academic year therefore close on 15 September 2026. Students who miss the date will have to wait for the 1 August 2027 opening, because AgriSETA does not run a second bursary window in the same year.

AgriSETA says students can apply for grants, internships and bursaries directly online, which avoids delays from posting or delivering documents.

More than bursaries

AgriSETA runs a matchmaking platform that connects job seekers with employers in the agricultural sector, which is useful for graduates looking for a first job on a farm, in an agribusiness or in food processing. Accredited training providers use AgriSETA’s online provider registration to load learners for learnerships and skills programmes.

Employers interact with AgriSETA too. Farms and agribusinesses submit workplace skills plans, annual training reports and pivotal training plans, and the 2026/2027 submissions were due on 31 May 2026. Those plans tell AgriSETA which skills the sector needs, which in turn shapes bursary priorities.

Researching AgriSETA properly

AgriSETA’s homepage still carries some old notices, including a discretionary grant call from 2022, so read the date on every notice before acting. Rely on the current bursary window and confirm your qualification appears on AgriSETA’s list of scarce and critical agricultural skills. AgriSETA also restricts use of its logo to accredited providers and official partners, so an advert that uses the logo while asking for money is a warning sign.

Students on farms or in rural areas can ask agricultural extension officers and TVET colleges with agriculture programmes about AgriSETA learnerships, which suit people who want practical skills rather than a degree.

Students who submit on the final day should keep proof of submission, such as a confirmation email or reference number, in case AgriSETA’s online system experiences problems close to the deadline.
