Fields of Study Funded

Support is available for full-time undergraduate studies in the following mining-focused fields:

  • Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current)
  • Electrical & Electronic Engineering
  • Geology
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Mining Engineering

Additionally, support is available for any field of study, for well-qualified applicants.

Benefits for Recipients

The bursary typically covers:

  1. Registration and tuition fees
  2. Prescribed textbooks and a laptop
  3. Accommodation and meals
  4. Photocopying expenses
  5. A monthly allowance (amount determined annually by Assmang Management)

Eligibility Criteria 

To qualify, applicants must:

  1. Be a South African citizen
  2. Reside in the Northern Cape, ideally within the John Taolo Gaetsewe District (Gamagara, Ga-Segonyana, Joe Morolong)
  3. Have completed Matric or currently be in Matric
  4. Be registered for or intend full-time study in one of the applicable fields at a recognised South African university or university of technology
  5. Not be in receipt of any other bursary funding
  6. Students with disabilities are encouraged to apply and may submit a medical certificate.

  1. No application form is required.
  2. Email your application with all required documents to [email protected]. Use the subject: “Assmang Khumani Mine Bursary 2026” (adjusting year accordingly).

Submit the following certified copies:

  1. South African ID document
  2. Matric results (or certificate)
  3. Academic transcript (if currently at tertiary level)
  4. Proof of provisional acceptance or registration (on institution letterhead)
  5. Proof of residence (municipal account)
  6. Updated CV
  7. If applicable, a medical certificate describing a disability.

Closing Date

The confirmed closing date for the 2025 bursary was 15 February 2025. 

Expect a similar deadline for 2026. Only applications submitted before the official closing date will be accepted.
