BVi's bursaries page invites engineering students to email a CV and academic record to careers@bvi.co.za and publishes no opening or closing dates.

BVi Consulting Engineers is a multidisciplinary engineering firm founded in 1967, with its head office at Menlyn Corporate Park in Pretoria and offices around South Africa and in neighbouring countries. It offers engineering bursaries as a standing arrangement rather than an advertised round: its bursary page carries no opening or closing date and invites students to send a CV and academic record by email at any time.

A Financial Assistance Agreement with work built in

BVi defines its bursary as a Financial Assistance Agreement between the company and the student. The firm calls it a deliberate programme to help the bursary holder become a qualified, competent engineering professional. The agreement includes a commitment to practical training as a BVi employee once the degree is finished, so a bursar should expect to start work at BVi after graduating.

BVi does not publish what the bursary pays for. Its pages do not say whether it covers tuition, accommodation, books or a living allowance, or how long the work commitment lasts. Those terms would be set out in the agreement itself.

Students BVi prefers to fund

The bursary page says BVi prefers applicants who are already registered for a BEng, BSc or BTech at a university or university of technology. BVi’s careers page adds that the student should be a South African citizen. Neither page sets a minimum mark or year of study, and neither mentions school leavers.

BVi’s engineering work covers civil, structural, electrical and mechanical engineering, engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) for mining and industrial clients, roads and rail, water, and town and regional planning. The bursary page does not limit funding to particular disciplines.

From graduate to professional registration

BVi’s careers page explains what happens to engineering graduates who join the firm. People with a BEng start as Graduate Engineers and people with a BTech start as Graduate Engineering Technologists. After a year they become Candidate Engineers or Candidate Engineering Technologists and join BVi’s Learnership and Mentorship Programme, which follows the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) rules for registering as a Professional Engineer or Professional Engineering Technologist. Each candidate gets a registered ECSA mentor, training and project exposure. BVi also lists short courses for continuing professional development and study assistance for employees at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

Sending a CV and academic record

To apply, email your CV and academic record to careers@bvi.co.za, the address on the BVi bursaries page. The careers page gives the same instruction but spells the address career@bvi.co.za, without the s. BVi does not publish an application form, a list of supporting documents or a timeline for replies. Its separate online “Apply” form is for jobs, not bursaries.

Other consulting firms also fund engineering students, among them Mtema Mashao Consulting Engineers. For a wider list by discipline, see the civil engineering bursaries page and the main engineering bursaries hub.

FAQs

1. When does the BVi bursary close? +
BVi publishes no closing date. Its bursary page is an open invitation to email a CV and academic record, with no dates attached.
2. Can a Grade 12 learner apply to BVi? +
BVi says it prefers students already registered for a BEng, BSc or BTech at a university or university of technology. Its pages do not mention school leavers.
3. Do BVi bursars have to work for the company? +
Yes. The bursary includes a commitment to practical training as a BVi employee after the degree is completed. BVi does not publish how long that commitment lasts.
4. What does the BVi bursary cover? +
BVi does not say. It describes the bursary only as a Financial Assistance Agreement, and the costs it covers are not listed on its website.
5. Can diploma students apply? +
The bursary page names BEng, BSc and BTech students. BVi’s careers page does accept job applications from graduates with a National Diploma or a draughting diploma, but that is employment, not the bursary.
Update note (checked September 2026): BVi’s bursaries page still invites engineering students to email a CV and academic record to careers@bvi.co.za. BVi publishes no opening or closing dates, so there is no set round.
