About the Bursary

The bursary is managed by Clockwork Media via its Empowerment Fund. It is financed from a portion of the company’s annual profits. 

Since around 2017, Clockwork has offered bursaries, learnerships, and internships under this scheme. 

They also launched the Menyetla programme, which integrates the bursary holders, interns, and learners in a more structured development path.

Fields of Study Funded

  1. Marketing
  2. Advertising
  3. Public Relations / Communications
  4. Related diplomas or degrees in creative/communications media.

Benefits for Recipients

  • Full bursary (tuition support) for degree or diploma study in one of the eligible fields.
  • Support throughout the academic career (priority for retention until graduation).
  • Possible internship or job opportunities at Clockwork after graduation.

Eligibility Criteria

You must satisfy all of the following (based on previous cycles):

  1. Be a South African citizen.
  2. Be female (Clockwork’s Empowerment Fund in past years has focused on young female students).
  3. Be accepted (or provisionally accepted) for full-time study in an eligible field (Marketing / Advertising / PR / Communications).
  4. Have a strong academic record.
  5. Demonstrate financial need (i.e. come from circumstances where you would not be able to afford higher education without support).

How to Apply

  • Keep an eye on Clockwork Media’s announcements for when bursary applications open (usually early in the year).
  • Submit required documents including: motivation letter, Grade 12 / latest academic results, cost estimate of the course + accommodation, copy of your South African ID. In past years, also a video (≈30 seconds) may be required.

Required Documents

Prepare the following (certified where necessary):

  1. South African ID copy.
  2. Matric certificate or latest Grade 12 results.
  3. Proof of acceptance or enrollment (if already registered).
  4. Cost estimate/fees schedule for the intended qualification + accommodation.
  5. Motivation letter and video (when required).

As of now, no official closing date for the 2026 Clarkwork Empowerment Fund Bursary has been published.
