Amazon Web Services funds one of the most generous technology bursaries in South Africa. Administered by StudyTrust, it covers the full cost of study, including a laptop and residence, for students in computing, engineering, commerce and mathematics education, and it explicitly gives preference to students with disabilities. Applications for 2027 are open now.

About the AWS Skills Development Bursary

  • Undergraduate: computer science, computer engineering, information technology, commerce with accounting or finance, electrical, electronic, mechanical, mechatronic and civil engineering, and a Bachelor of Education specialising in Mathematics and Science.
  • Postgraduate: computer science, computer engineering, information technology, commerce with accounting or finance, and the engineering disciplines.
  • Students with disabilities may apply for any study programme.
  • Covers tuition fees, stationery and books, a personal computer, residence accommodation and subsistence, up to capped amounts.

AWS Bursary eligibility requirements

  • South African citizen, in Matric or with Matric, studying full-time at an accredited South African university in 2027.
  • At least 65% in Matric Mathematics, 65% in Matric Physical Science and 65% in English (home language or first additional language).
  • At least a 65% overall average at tertiary level if already studying.
  • A strong academic record, leadership potential and financial need. Preference goes to students with disabilities.

How to apply for the AWS Bursary

  1. Open the application at studytrust.org.za/amazon-web.
  2. Upload a photograph, a certified South African ID, your Grade 11 and Matric results, academic records if you are studying, proof of household income, death certificates or child support documents where applicable, and proof of disability if relevant.
  3. Submit before 16 October 2026. StudyTrust assesses applications and confirms awards before registration.
