Coronation Fund Managers, the independent asset manager founded in Cape Town in 1993, funds exceptional students from disadvantaged backgrounds through commerce, finance, data and computer science degrees. The Exceptional Student Bursary is run by Excel@Uni, renews each year on performance and leads into a work-back period at Coronation, so it doubles as an early recruitment route into asset management.
About the Coronation Exceptional Student Bursary
- Fields: bachelor’s and honours degrees in commerce, finance, data analytics, information technology, computer science and software or computer engineering.
- Institutions: public universities registered with DHET and the CHE. Diplomas, certificates, N-courses, master’s and doctoral study, TVET and private colleges and distance learning are excluded.
- Covers tuition and study costs, with the package confirmed in the award letter, renewable each year on results, engagement and budget.
- Bursars work for Coronation for one year for each year funded.
Coronation Bursary eligibility requirements
- South African citizen, in Matric, a gap-year student or already at university.
- Matric applicants: a Bachelor pass with at least 75% overall, including Mathematics (not Mathematical Literacy).
- Current students: at least 70% overall, on track to finish on time.
- Financial need, leadership potential and a well-rounded profile; employment equity considerations apply.
How to apply for the Coronation Bursary
- Open the application at coronation.auraams.app and create a profile.
- Upload a certified ID, stamped academic records, proof of acceptance or registration, a one-page statement on your field of study, a recommendation letter from someone who is not a relative, a CV, your parents’ or guardians’ IDs and proof of household income, and NSFAS or other bursary documents where relevant.
- Submit before midday on the closing date. Shortlisted applicants go through screening, psychometric assessments and interviews.
