The Internet Service Providers’ Association (ISPA) is the industry body for South Africa’s internet service providers. Through its ISPA Inspires programme it sponsors young South Africans to study ICT qualifications, replacing the teacher-training initiative it ran for many years. The sponsorship targets fields where the internet industry has a skills shortage and gives priority to previously disadvantaged applicants.

About the ISPA Inspires Educational Sponsorship

The sponsorship provides financial support towards an ICT-related qualification or accredited skills programme at a South African university, TVET college, registered private college or other accredited training provider. The amount depends on the course and institution. Recipients also gain access to the ISPA Fellowship Programme and to industry working groups, which give exposure to emerging technologies and to employers in the sector.

ISPA Bursary eligibility requirements

• South African citizen.
• Within the youth age range defined by the National Youth Policy (up to 35 years old).
• Currently studying, or intending to enrol in 2027, for an ICT-related qualification or skills programme at a recognised institution.
• Committed to a career in the ICT sector.
• Not a postgraduate student, and not receiving any other bursary or scholarship.

No prior IT experience is required. Preference is given to previously disadvantaged individuals.

Qualifying fields of study

IT and computer courses relevant to the internet service provider sector, with a focus on areas of critical skills shortage. Typical examples are networking, cyber security, software development, cloud computing, systems administration and data communications, at certificate, diploma or degree level.

How to apply for the ISPA Bursary

1. Go to the ISPA Inspires portal and register with your email address to create a login.
2. Confirm your registration from the email ISPA sends you, then log in.
3. Complete the online application form. You will need to write a motivation statement explaining your career goals in ICT and why you need the sponsorship.
4. Upload your supporting documents: certified ID, latest academic results, proof of acceptance or registration from the institution, and a fee quote or statement for the course.
5. Submit before 30 October 2026. Successful applicants are notified by email after the selection process.

ISPA Bursary closing date

Applications for the 2027 academic year close on 30 October 2026. The 2025 cycle closed at 18:00 on its closing day, so treat 18:00 as the cut-off.
