DRDGOLD Bursary 2026 Requirements & How To Apply
The DRDGOLD bursary provides financial support for undergraduate students living in Gauteng and studying in priority fields.
Because bursary spots are limited and deadlines are strict, you should assemble all documents ahead of time.
About the Organisation
DRDGOLD Limited (formerly Durban Roodepoort Deep) is a South African gold producer specialising in recovering metal from surface tailings.
Its subsidiaries, including Ergo Mining (Pty) Ltd and Far West Gold Recoveries (FWGR), participate in the bursary programme.
Fields of Study Funded
Bursaries are awarded for full-time undergraduate studies in these fields:
- Electrical Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Metallurgy
- Environmental Sciences
- Finance
- Human Resources
- Information Technology (IT)
- Safety Management
Benefits for Recipients
- The bursary includes a requirement to do vacation work at one of DRDGOLD’s (Ergo or FWGR) operations during university breaks. This gives practical exposure.
- It helps cover study costs (tuition, registration) for eligible students in the qualifying fields.
Eligibility Criteria
You must meet all of the following:
- Be a South African citizen residing in Gauteng province. Preference is generally given to students living in the City of Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni, and Merafong.
- Be entering the 1st or 2nd year of undergraduate studies.
- Be studying or intend to study full-time at a recognised tertiary institution in South Africa.
- Be studying in one of the eligible fields listed above.
- Have strong academic results. Preference is given to students with good performance.
Required Documents
You will need to submit the following:
- Certified copy of your South African ID document.
- Proof of residential address in Gauteng (municipal account, or similar).
- A short curriculum vitae (CV).
- For 1st-year students: latest Matric results (or Grade 11 final results if applicable), and a provisional letter of acceptance from the tertiary institution.
- For 2nd-year students: the full academic record from the previous year of tertiary study.
Closing Date
In recent past cycles, the closing date has been 19 February of the application year.
For 2026, the exact closing date has not yet been confirmed. Keep an eye on DRDGOLD notifications.
