Fluor is a global engineering, procurement and construction company headquartered in Texas. Its South African office in Woodmead, Johannesburg, designs and builds mining, energy, chemicals and infrastructure projects across sub-Saharan Africa, and funds engineering students through an annual bursary that feeds its graduate programme.

About the Fluor Bursary

The bursary is for students already enrolled at a South African university in one of these engineering disciplines:

  • Architectural engineering
  • Chemical engineering
  • Civil and structural engineering
  • Control systems and instrumentation engineering
  • Electrical engineering
  • Mechanical engineering

It covers tuition, an accommodation allowance and study materials, and includes mentorship by Fluor engineers and vacation work at the Johannesburg office. Bursars are considered for the company’s graduate programme when they qualify.

Fluor Bursary eligibility requirements

  • South African citizen.
  • Enrolled, or provisionally accepted, at an accredited South African university for one of the disciplines above.
  • Strong academic results. Fluor does not publish a minimum, but successful applicants typically average above 65%.
  • Demonstrated financial need.
  • A genuine interest in a career in engineering, procurement and construction at Fluor.

How to apply for the Fluor Bursary

  1. Prepare certified copies of your most recent academic results (Matric or university), your provisional acceptance letter or proof of registration on university letterhead, an up-to-date CV, and a motivation letter explaining why you chose your field and why you want to work at Fluor.
  2. Email the documents to Henny Moraka, Talent Development Specialist, at henny.moraka@fluor.com with the subject line “BURSARY”.
  3. Submit before the April closing date. Shortlisted applicants are contacted within about two weeks for interviews and assessments.
