Fields of Study
In South Africa you qualify as an architect by completing a three-year BAS or BSc in Architectural Studies, followed by an honours degree and a professional master’s in architecture, at universities such as UCT, Wits, UP, UFS, UKZN, NMU and UJ.
Graduates register with the South African Council for the Architectural Profession (SACAP) as candidates, complete supervised practical experience, and pass the council’s professional practice exam to register as professional architects.
SACAP also registers architectural technologists, senior technologists and draughtspersons, who follow diploma and degree routes at universities of technology.
