Gauteng College of Nursing Bursary Eligibility requirements
Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:
- Be a South African citizen and reside in Gauteng Province.
- Hold one of the following school-leaving qualifications (or be in Grade 12):
- Senior Certificate
- National Senior Certificate (NSC)
- National Certificate Vocational (NCV) Level 4 (Primary Health)
- Meet minimum subject/academic scores:
- Senior Certificate: English HG D (or SG C), Biology HG D (or SG C), Mathematics HG D (or SG C), and an M-score of 17.
- NSC: English level 4, Life Sciences level 4, Mathematics level 4 (or Maths Literacy level 5), with an APS of at least 27 (Life Orientation counts for half).
- NCV Primary Health: At least 50% in fundamental subjects and 60% in vocational subjects.
- Demonstrate key personal attributes and competencies: compassion, patience, organisation, leadership, honesty, flexibility, problem-solving, computer literacy and good study skills.
- Be willing to sign a service agreement with Gauteng Department of Health and participate fully in Work Integrated Learning (WIL), including night, weekend, and public holiday shifts at public health facilities.
- Pass a psychometric assessment and a medical surveillance check (physical exam, verification of documents) if shortlisted.
Gauteng College of Nursing Bursary Application process
- Register and Apply Online
- Create a profile and apply through the GPG (Gauteng Provincial Government) Professional Job Centre portal.
- Upload all required documentation including ID, academic certificates, proof of residence, etc.
- Shortlisting and Assessment
- Shortlisted applicants will be invited for a psychometric test.
- Medical surveillance: shortlisted candidates undergo a physical exam and verification of submitted documents.
- Selection Agreement
- If selected, students must sign an agreement with the Gauteng Department of Health.
- You will be expected to attend lectures and complete WIL in public health settings (hospitals, clinics) as part of your training.
- Onboarding
- Once accepted, you will study toward a Diploma in Nursing at one of GCONβs campuses.
