The Gauteng Department of Health has officially opened applications for the 2027 Gauteng College of Nursing student intake. Individuals who want to build a career in nursing can now apply online for admission to the Diploma in Nursing programme.
Successful applicants will be placed at one of the following Gauteng College of Nursing campuses:
- Ann Latsky Campus
- Chris Hani Baragwanath Campus
- SG Lourens Campus
- Bonalesedi Campus
How To Apply
Applications must be submitted online through the GPG Professional Job Centre.
Applicants must:
- Register an account on the GPG Professional Job Centre.
- Complete the online application form.
- Upload all required supporting documents.
- Present original documents at the selection centre if shortlisted.
The Gauteng Department of Health will not accept emailed or hand-delivered applications.
Closing Date
Applications close on 26 September 2026. Late applications will not be considered.
Gauteng College of Nursing 2027 Requirements
To qualify, applicants must:
- Be a South African citizen living in Gauteng.
- Hold one of the following qualifications:
- Senior Certificate (SC)
- National Senior Certificate (NSC)
- National Certificate (Vocational) Primary Health
- Currently be in Grade 12
Senior Certificate (SC)
Applicants must have:
- English: Higher Grade D or Standard Grade C
- Mathematics: Higher Grade D or Standard Grade C
- Biology: Higher Grade D or Standard Grade C
- Minimum M-score of 17
National Senior Certificate (NSC)
Applicants must have:
- English Level 4
- Life Sciences Level 4
- Mathematics Level 4, or Mathematics Literacy Level 5
- Admission Point Score (APS) of at least 27, with Life Orientation counting as half
National Certificate (Vocational)
Applicants must achieve:
- At least 50% in Fundamental Subjects, including English First Additional Language, Mathematics or Mathematics Literacy, and Life Orientation.
- At least 60% in Vocational Subjects, including:
- South African Healthcare System
- Public Health
- The Human Body and Mind
- Community-Oriented Primary Care
Current Grade 12 Learners
Grade 12 learners may also apply. Their Grade 11 final results must meet the National Senior Certificate admission requirements.

Selection Process
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to complete a compulsory psychometric assessment.
Successful candidates must also complete medical surveillance, including a physical examination and verification of all supporting documents before final admission.
What Happens After Acceptance?
Students who receive an offer must sign an agreement with the Gauteng Department of Health.
During the programme, students will:
- Attend lectures.
- Complete Work Integrated Learning (WIL).
- Work clinical shifts at Gauteng public hospitals and clinics, including weekends, nights, and public holidays where required.
Important Notice
Meeting the minimum admission requirements does not guarantee acceptance into the Diploma in Nursing programme. Only applicants who satisfy all eligibility requirements and successfully complete every stage of the selection process will receive final placement.
