Glencore lists these ferroalloys scholarships without values, criteria or dates, and the Bursaries Portal listing it links to was no longer available; no open round was found.
Glencore’s ferroalloys business in South Africa, which mines and smelts chrome and vanadium in North West and Limpopo, runs three scholarship schemes alongside its university bursary. Two are aimed at families in the communities around its operations and one at the children of its own employees. Glencore describes them in a few lines on its South African early careers page and publishes no values, criteria or dates for any of them, so this page sets out only what the company has said.
The Glencore Alloys university bursary for engineering, commerce, accounting and geology students is covered on our Glencore bursary page and is not repeated here.
Three scholarships named by Ferro Alloys
High school scholarships for Grades 8 to 12
Ferro Alloys offers scholarships to children in its communities at secondary school level, from Grade 8 through Grade 12. Glencore does not say which schools or towns qualify, what the scholarship pays for, or how learners are chosen.
Home Away from Home scholarship
Glencore lists a “Home away from home” scholarship for the children of its employees. Glencore publishes no details of it online, so employees need to ask within the company.
Glencore Ferro Alloys Scholarship for tertiary study
The third scheme is for learners from the host community who have finished Matric and want to study further at a tertiary institution. Glencore does not limit it to named fields. The company’s South African case studies include a Rustenburg medical student described as one of the first community bursars Glencore supported, and a Glencore-supported veterinary science student from Lydenburg. The case studies do not say which scheme funded them.
Artisan training at the Eastern Limb Training Centre
Ferroalloys South Africa also owns and runs the Eastern Limb Training Centre, an accredited skills development provider, trade test centre and assessment centre. It offers occupational qualifications, skills programmes, short courses and artisan recognition of prior learning, combining classroom theory with workshop training for engineering and mining trades. Glencore has not published an intake date or entry requirements for the centre.
Where applications go
Glencore’s early careers page sends applicants for all its South African bursaries and scholarships to a login on the Bursaries Portal website. When we followed that link in September 2026, the Glencore listing it points to was no longer available, and Glencore had not posted a new application link or closing date. Glencore says it works with host communities through community consultation forums, which cover education and skills development among other issues.
For other school-level funding, see our list of high school bursaries and scholarships and the Glencore provider profile.
