About the Southern African Development Community Scholarship

Established in honor of SADC’s founders, this scholarship seeks to promote research on the organization’s history, its role in Southern Africa’s liberation, and its contribution to regional cooperation.

It’s open to Master’s, Doctoral, and Postdoctoral researchers across the 16 SADC member states.

Recipients receive financial support to pursue studies relevant to regional integration, peace, security, and socio-economic development.

Southern African Development Community Scholarship Application Form

The application process involves several steps:

  1. Eligibility Check: Ensure you meet the scholarship criteria before proceeding. Information on eligibility is available on the SADC website or official scholarship announcement.
  2. Prepare Required Documents: Gather all necessary documents, including academic transcripts, research proposal, recommendation letters, and proof of citizenship.
  3. Download Application Form: The application form can be downloaded from the official SADC website.
  4. Complete Form Carefully: Fill out the form accurately and comprehensively, providing all requested information.
  5. Submit Application: Submit your completed application along with supporting documents to the designated email address or postal address as specified in the official announcement.

The Southern African Development Community Scholarship Requirements

For you to be eligible for the SADC Scholarship, you must adhere to specific qualification requirements:

  1. Citizenship: Be a citizen of one of the 16 SADC member states.
  2. Academic Qualification: Hold a relevant undergraduate degree for Master’s applicants, a Master’s degree for Doctoral applicants, and a doctorate for Postdoctoral applicants.
  3. Research Focus: Propose research aligned with SADC’s thematic areas, including regional integration, peace and security, and socio-economic development.
  4. Age Limit: Meet the age restrictions outlined in the official announcement. These vary depending on your study level and gender.
  5. Employment Status: Not be employed by the SADC Secretariat or be an immediate family member of an employee.

The Southern African Development Community Scholarship Closing Date

The SADC Scholarship normally opens for applications annually, with the usual deadline falling on 30 April each year.
