Hollywood Foundation Bursary Requirements and How to Apply
The Hollywood Foundation Bursary, known as the “Future is Bright Bursary Programme,” is a prominent funding initiative offered by the Hollywood Foundation to support academically deserving and financially needy South African students.
The bursary is strategically aligned with high-demand disciplines critical to the growth of the technology, finance, and marketing sectors.
The programme offers both full or partial funding for a wide range of qualifications, from Higher Certificates up to Postgraduate studies.
Hollywood Foundation Bursary Supported Fields of Study
The Hollywood Foundation primarily supports qualifications within four high-impact disciplines:
- Finance & Accounting
- Information Technology & Computing (e.g., Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Software Engineering, Information Systems)
- Digital Marketing / Marketing & Communication
- Data Science
Financial Coverage and Value
The bursary aims to provide comprehensive financial relief to recipients, though the level of funding (full or partial) depends on the student’s academic performance and the field of study.
- Core Coverage: Registration Fees, Tuition Fees, Prescribed Textbooks, and Study Materials.
- Possible Additional Coverage: Full bursaries may include Accommodation and Living Assistance (where applicable and approved).
- Obligations: Recipients are required to partake in vacation work at the company for a minimum of half of the holiday period, and a transport stipend is provided for this.
- Post-Graduation: Students may be required to take up employment at the company (at their sole discretion) for a duration equal to the duration of funding received.
Eligibility Requirements for the Hollywood Foundation Bursary
Applicants must meet the following minimum academic and personal criteria to be considered for the bursary:
- You must be a South African citizen.
- You must be studying or intending to study at a South African tertiary institution (University or College) that is registered with the DHET.
- Your qualification must have a duration of 12 months or longer.
- You must not be holding any other bursary, award, or internship that binds you to enter the service of another organisation upon completion of your studies.
- Academic Criteria (Matric Learners): Must have achieved a minimum overall average of 65% in your Grade 12 mid-year or final results.
- Academic Criteria (Current Tertiary Students): Must have achieved a minimum overall average of 60% in your most recent academic results.
- You must maintain a minimum overall average of 60% to be considered for funding for subsequent academic years.
Hollywood Foundation Bursary Application Process
The application for the Hollywood Foundation Bursary is conducted entirely online.
Students preparing for the next cycle must ensure they have all necessary certified documents ready for upload.
- Check Status: When the next cycle opens, visit the Hollywood Foundation website and look for the “Future is Bright Bursary Programme” application portal.
- Complete Online Form: Fill in all sections of the online application form accurately and completely.
- Motivation Letter: Write and attach a detailed Motivation Letter (maximum 2000 words) outlining why you deserve the bursary and how your chosen qualification aligns with your career goals.
- Upload Compulsory Documents (Certified Copies):
- ID document (certified copy, issued within the last six months).
- Matric Certificate/Statement of Results.
- Most recent academic results (if currently studying at tertiary level).
- Acceptance Letter or proof of application from the institution.
- Proforma Invoice/Estimate Invoice from the institution, clearly detailing costs (tuition, registration, study materials, etc.).
- Proof of Address (e.g., utility bill or affidavit).
- Detailed information regarding the chosen qualification.
Status Update and Closing Date
- Status for 2026: CLOSED (Closed 16 September 2025).
- Next Expected Opening: July 2026.
All applicants for the 2026 cycle will receive feedback on their status by the end of December 2025.
