Jindal Africa, part of India’s Jindal group, runs the Kiepersol anthracite mine in the Mkhondo area of Mpumalanga. Its bursary is a community commitment for young people from Mkhondo, and it funds both university engineers and TVET-trained artisans, the two groups a working mine needs most.
About the Jindal Africa Bursary
- University fields: electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, metallurgy, mine surveying and mining engineering. Covers full tuition, books, accommodation, a living allowance and a once-off laptop allowance.
- TVET fields: boilermaker, diesel mechanic, electrician, fitting and turning and millwright. Covers full tuition, books, accommodation and a stipend.
Jindal Africa Bursary eligibility requirements
- South African citizen living in the Mkhondo Local Municipality.
- In Matric or with Matric, planning to study full-time in a listed field.
- University applicants in Matric: at least Level 5 for English and Level 6 for Mathematics and Physical Science.
- Accepted, or provisionally accepted, at a recognised university or TVET college.
How to apply for the Jindal Africa Bursary
- Confirm with the mine or your community forum leader that a round is open. There is no application form.
- Prepare an application letter naming your field, an updated CV, a certified ID, a certified school report, your most recent academic record and proof of acceptance.
- Hand it in through your community forum leader or at the mine’s main gate security before the closing date.
