The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Sport, Arts and Culture runs the province’s museums, archives, libraries and arts programmes, and it funds KZN residents to qualify in the creative and heritage skills it struggles to recruit, from archivists and conservators to animators, jewellers and sign language interpreters.

About the KZN Sport, Arts and Culture Bursary

The bursary funds full-time study towards these critical and scarce qualifications:

Postgraduate diploma in archives and records management.
National diplomas in fashion design, jewellery design and manufacture, video technology, and translation and interpreting practice (sign language).
Bachelor of Arts in film and television production (animation and cinematography) and Bachelor of Applied Arts in screen arts and technology.
Postgraduate diploma or honours in museum studies with a restoration and conservation focus.

It covers tuition, accommodation, meals or a stipend, and prescribed textbooks or learning materials where needed. Bursars sign a service contract to work for the department for a period equal to the funding.

Living in KwaZulu-Natal and aged 18 to 35.
In Matric or completed Matric.
Provisionally accepted for full-time study in a listed qualification at a recognised public institution, preferably in KwaZulu-Natal unless the qualification is not offered there.
Students with disabilities are encouraged to apply.

How to apply for the KZN DSAC Bursary

Download the application form from kzndsac.gov.za or collect it from a district office when the advert appears.
Attach certified copies of your ID, Matric results or certificate, recent academic results if already studying, proof of registration or provisional acceptance, your parents’ or guardians’ IDs and proof of income (payslips, an unemployment affidavit or a SASSA letter), proof of residence and a profiling certificate or report if applicable.
Submit the application to the Bursary Unit, Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, 171 Boshoff Street, Pietermaritzburg, 3201, or to any of the department’s eleven district offices, before the closing date. Shortlisted applicants are notified within four months.
