AfriSam’s values and community focus

AfriSam sums up its values as People, Planet and Performance. AfriSam says it targets a portion of profits at socio-economic development in the communities around its operations, and it selects beneficiaries for development and training from those host communities.

AfriSam’s programmes reach beyond students. AfriSam develops and trains small businesses owned by black women and young people that could supply AfriSam or the wider construction industry, and it addresses educational needs in host communities.

The AfriSam bursary calendar

AfriSam’s bursary for 2027 closed on 11 September 2026, and AfriSam does not consider late applications. For 2028 study, BursariesAfrica expects the round to open around July 2027 and close in September 2027.

A warning AfriSam wants applicants to hear

AfriSam’s website warns about fraudulent messages from people claiming to be AfriSam employees who ask for airtime, data, cash payments, vouchers or financial help. Bursary applicants are an obvious target for this kind of scam. AfriSam never needs payment to process a bursary application, and anyone who receives such a request should contact AfriSam directly.

Researching AfriSam before July

Students who live near an AfriSam quarry or cement plant should find out which operation is closest, because AfriSam focuses its community programmes on areas surrounding its operations. AfriSam’s product pages also explain how cement, aggregates and readymix differ, which helps engineering applicants describe the part of the business that interests them. Ask AfriSam whether the bursary includes vacation work at a plant and any obligation to work for AfriSam afterwards.

AfriSam’s operations in Lesotho and Eswatini also mean AfriSam hires across borders, although students should check whether the South African bursary accepts applicants from those countries.
