Armscor beyond procurement

Armscor’s recent activities show a public-facing side. Armscor partnered with the SANDF Spouses Forum to provide humanitarian relief to families affected by floods. In support of education, Armscor partnered with Nzalo Careers to run a back-to-school campaign in parts of Limpopo from 3 to 5 March 2026.

The Armscor Bursary Scheme

Armscor’s bursary page explains the scheme’s focus plainly: Armscor funds and prioritises studies in fields critical to South Africa’s defence and security. That usually means engineering, science and technology fields, but Armscor’s published eligibility and field list is the authority for each year.

Armscor runs an unusually long application window that crosses the new year. For 2026 study, Armscor accepted applications from 3 November 2025 to 26 February 2026. No 2027 dates had been published when BursariesAfrica checked, so expect the next window to open around November 2026.

The long window helps matriculants, who can apply after receiving their final results in January, and it helps university students who want to include their end-of-year marks.

Researching an Armscor application

Armscor’s bursary page asks applicants to review the eligibility requirements before applying. Read them closely, especially the list of priority fields and any citizenship rules, because defence work usually requires South African citizenship and may involve security screening for later employment.

Learn about Armscor’s role before an interview. Armscor manages defence acquisition and runs research and test facilities, so applicants should be able to explain how their field, whether electronics, mechanical engineering or data analysis, could support defence and security work. Armscor’s website describes its divisions and test facilities, which gives concrete examples.
